Can’t see a reason to be selected for this, found nothing on Google. Is this a scam?

Hello all,

I have an Instagram account with 351 followers and 541 posts (most of which were made like 6 years ago when I was a kid trying to be popular). Nowadays I post almost nothing, not even in stories. The few times I post pictures they’re mostly of landscapes or something like that. When I use stories it’s usually a repost of whoever tagged me or for awareness raising about an issue. I arrived in Germany from Brazil about 2 months ago to study my masters in environmental sciences.

I was recently messaged by a Clarissa who claims to be part of the recruitment team for a brand called Espoir London. Here’s the text:

“Hey Gorgeous 😍 I’m Clarrisa I am part of our talent recruitment team for Espoir London. We are looking for potential ambassador who can represent our brand and wear our pieces. As an official ambassador, you’ll get free products plus free shipping, earn money through commissions, and even be featured on the main page.

Please let me know if you would like to enroll our programme as we have limited spot. Just send a message to our main page @theofficialespoir and don’t forget to tell them that I sent you for fast verification😊”

I have photos from the actual message, her profile and the official profile for Espoir in [this]( Imgur poat. Also the official Espoir website in [this]( archive.

The official account is huge and everything seems rather legit but I’m very confused as to how this person reached me and how I was chosen. I’m not an influencer, the only thing I have in common with the brand is that I am a woman that wears jewelry sometimes.

Can someone please help me understand what’s going on?

    It’s an !influencer scam.

  2. It’s likely an influencer scam as /u/Aunty_Fascist said, but account takeover/ransom scams are becoming more common on Instagram due to the platform’s weak security and insufficient tech support.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Espoir had their account taken over and used to send messages to compromise other accounts; it happens all the time, unfortunately.

If you search for their IG handle, you’ll find them spamming anyone to ‘collab’ or ‘team up’ with them. Like others said, it has all the hallmark of a brand ambassador scam.

If only more people had this reaction when approached by some stranger offering goodies…

  5. that’s all around IG. Never bothered reading nor responding to this. Clearly an influencer scam.
