Scams

Deal-catchers.com

Back on the 11th of august this year, Reddit’s home page had a sponsored post on the top for a website labled Deal-catchers, specifically a ‘free’ mouse. I knew very well sites like this usually have the full cost and excess somewhere in the shipping, but had been looking for a cheap mouse to carry around. I placed the order, and nothing.

I received a confirmation email from the company and was billed for the item. A month went by and there was no word on shipping. I emailed them and was told they were backlogged because of the Reddit advertisement. A few days later, the entire site went down, and has been down ever since. I had given this online store a chance because Reddit, an otherwise trustworthy company had partnered with them. However 2 months, 1 email response, no package and a unavailable site raises far to many questions about how they function, and how Reddit picks their sponsors. Any advice on fixing this, or having Reddit look into the legitimacy of some of these programs.

  1. Call your creditor or bank and ask for a charge back/dispute the charge. Do it now. There can be time limits.

Tons of crap, ‘scammy’ sites are advertised here all the time. There’s barely any filter.

  3. There is literally a sticky about this exact subject. Reddit didn’t partner with them. They paid reddit to show their ad. That’s the extent of the relationship.
