Does it make sense to call French authorities?

Hello everybody,I’m selling a camera in a Italian website, someone texted me to buy it,he says he’s French but now is in Africa,he also told me that he would send the money before I ship the camera, and also sent me his ID. Would be too much if I call some French authorities/French consulate here in Italy? Also there is any other method to check if someone is a real person?

  1. The French consulate is absolutely not going to help you sell your second-hand camera. Ignore the obvious scam and sell it to someone local.

  2. No government authority of any kind anywhere is going to care about this kind of scam or scammer. There is no way to know for sure if someone that you are talking to on the internet is really the person that they claim to be.

Don’t ship! Don’t call French (or Italian) authorities. Don’t accept checks. Cash only in person sales. The only way you can be sure you won’t get scammed

The French authorities can do nothing about an African scammer. Only sell items for cash, in person, or on a sales platform that provides you with protection as a seller. No exceptions.

Are you talking about informing the French authorities that a scammer is using someone’s ID in a scam?
