Fun scam story on Offer Up

Basically I’ve been looking for an M1 iPad Pro. I was originally looking on Amazon and saving up. I downloaded offer to sell some items. I then, for fun, checked offer up for an iPad. BIG MISTAKE. I saw some for a high price and just kept scrolling. Then I saw some that were obvious scams, like M S G 1248……. But then I saw one that looked legitimate and seller had a decent amount of reviews. Price was half of the retail and that really did make me think it was a scam. But everything else, like description, title, pictures etc all looked good. I started talking to the seller and was able to get the serial number (which checked out). I went on and bought it. Delivery day comes around and for some reason it says that they attempted delivery. I checked home and no one came or left the pink sheet. I called usps and they told me that the tracking had my address and name, but package had a different name and address. That got me thinking, it’s for sure a scam. Next day comes around and they didn’t redeliver. I went to the post office and I talked to the employee. He asked for my ID and I have it to him. He went to the back for about 5-7 minutes. He came back with a box that really did look like it would have the package. I got so happy. He came and asked, “what’s supposed to be in here.” I told him, an iPad. He was like yea this is a scam. He showed me the box and it felt completely empty. He was like I’m not going to give it to you because if I do, it’ll be marked delivered and you’ll lose your money. He said I’ll send it back to sender and you’ll hopefully get your money back.

As I’m driving home I get the notification that package had “insufficient address”. I get home and I check the sender and he’s not on my messages anymore. I check the receipt on offer up and it said that seller canceled your payment. Which I’m assuming happened because he deactivated his account. I got so lucky with this.

Moral of the story, don’t use offer up for shipping, because if it had gotten marked delivered I don’t know how I would’ve explained it. And if the price looks too good, it’s probably a scam.

Btw throughout the entire time , I was emailing offer up, and they never responded.

Anyways good luck y’all, and stay safe.
