Scams

Got scammed out of $37,000

Long story here that goes back a couple of years, it all started in 2016 when I was unemployed looking for jobs online using my resume. I received an email from a real estate company in calgary, alberta claiming that they found my resume online and would like to give me a job offer to be an online service manager. I then replied to this email, they sent me a job application for me to fill out and send it back to them with all my information.

Then the person sent me $1600 to start the job but they told me to take that money out of my account and deposit into the bitcoin machine. The next day I went to buy an item at the store when my transaction was declined, I was confused as to why so I went to the bank that day to see what the problem is. They told me that they will investigate it and get back to me in a couple of days. A few days went by and they called me and said that the money that was deposited into my account was stolen money.

About maybe 2 weeks went by when I noticed $5000 missing from my account. I thought that the bank made an error so I ignored it for a while thinking that it will be cleared up soon. However I was blinded by the fact that I got scammed by this person and thinking that the bank would of investigated the stolen money but they didn’t.

Fast forward to may 2019 when I got a message on instagram from a woman claiming to be from new york. I accepted the message and we started talking back and forth, she then told me to go onto hangouts so that we can chat further. We started to chat on hangouts when she said that she needs money for her internet to talk to me more and clothes for her modelling career. So she told me to buy amazon gift cards at $100 each which amounted up to $1000. After a while we talked more and asked me to send her more money through western union, which ended up going to all over the states (arizona, texas, illinois).

Even at one point she told me to take $1500, put it into a magazine and into an envelope and sent it to calgary, alberta for her. At this point she was using my netflix account to watch movies so I was able to see where this person was signing into (the states first and then nigeria long after). Another point was when I wired $1540 to indiana from my bank to theirs which the person was using a nigerian name to receive the money.

They asked for my facebook account password which I gave them because I mistrusted them a lot. They went through my facebook, changed my password so I can’t get access to it anymore and then deleted my profile. About 2 weeks go by and the person that is talking to me on hangouts claim to be a girl that I knew from my high school, she changed her name slowly to hers, which finally the person used her first and last name and got 2 pictures of her on their hangouts profile.

I then truly believed this person that I was talking to was the girl from my high school because I saw her first and last name plus 2 pictures of her. About a couple of weeks go by of us talking back and forth and she asked me to send her a nude picture of myself, I then did because again I thought the person I was talking to was her.

About 2-3 months went by after the nude picture was sent of us talking back and forth. The person then asked me to send them more money to pay off their student loan because they have to be debt free to start their modelling career. I refused to give them more money until they threatened me to blackmail me with my nude picture and send it to all my friends and family, post it online and destroy my life with it. They demanded me to send them all the money I had left in my account to stop this from happening so I proceeded to send them $2000 a day into the bitcoin machine until all was finished. This amounted up to $25,000.

The person is still asking me for $4,000 now for them to get a will for their dad’s property in nigeria and also for flight money so that they can meet me to give me back all the money that I gave to them in the past.

I’ve tried to get into contact with the actual girl from my high school but upon calling her workplace she is not working there anymore at that company.

And yes I have filed a police report back in august of 2020. The latest news being from the officer is that if they are communicating to me from nigeria they are unable to identify them. He even tried calling the number they provided to me on my facebook profile but no response, and also their email address no response either.

Do you think that the actual girls profiles was hacked into to get her pictures to use to scam me? How would they do this? Because I never seen those 2 pictures of her on any of her profiles, and upon my investigation, 2 weeks before I reported it to the police, her instagram profile was deleted, no pictures on her linkedin profile anymore, her facebook profile has no picture of her, and her twitter account was not used since 2015 either.

  1. This sounds like you just took every scam on the sub and wrote it into one story. There’s no way someone can be that naive that many times over if they noticed all of the changes and scams happen as the occurred.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be the result of the hack, but obviously you aren’t speaking to that girl, so the scammer is impersonating her. This was a common fake job offer which (as is common) resulted in a fake check scam.

This was a common romance scam.

This was a common dick pic blackmail scam.

    >I also forgot to mention … the person deposited $800 into my account in 2019 for me to buy them more amazon gift cards … Again the bank … teller told me … fraudulent check

This was (again) a common fake check scam.

You never had any actual contact with the girl from your high school so you should leave her alone, you do not have any actual real or useful information about any of the scammers, and the police cannot do anything. You have REPEATEDLY shown that you will fall EXECPTIONALLY HARD for simple common scams. You should stop trying to find information about past scams because you are TOTALLY out of your league and it could only result in you being a victim of more scams. You should IMMEDIATELY stop talking with people that are not right in front of you in person, because you clearly do not know how to tell if someone on the internet is a scammer.

  8. You left out the part about meeting a female Navy Seal on Tinder who is stationed in Syria on a top secret mission, wants to marry you when she’s retired from the military next year, and meanwhile has teamed up with you to invest in Bitcoin.

  9. this looks more like a writing exercise, I really hope all of this didn’t really occur right? 😮
