San Francisco Women Leaders Scam

I’ve been dealing with emails from “Shelly” of San Francisco Women’s Leaders. Once she said she got my email from LinkedIn I knew it was fake because..I don’t have a LinkedIn account! I kept replying to her to see if she’d finally admit how she got my email but of course she never did. She slips by calling the event different things. She calls it the “Bay Area Women’s Leadership Summit” as well as the “San Francisco Women Leaders”. In one email she says that I can still have access to all the Tampa events but Tampa is in Florida and I’m in California. I think she forgot to change her copy and pasted message, lol! I can’t believe there are stories from all over the US about this scam! Here is my email interactions with her **(Thread starts from the bottom of the emails; names censored due to Reddit rules)**:

Hi ****, there were several key speaker additions to next week’s San Francisco Women Leaders meeting below. Could you share the updated agenda and upcoming schedule below with other women you think would enjoy it and managers at good companies who might like to foster and support their upcoming women? This month’s meeting will also be recorded for those tied up that day (registration covers them for a full year). Thanks ***! – Shelly

Hi ****, I had forgotten to ask if you could relay our yearly kickoff schedule below to other women you think would enjoy the group and any managers at good San Francisco area companies you think might like to foster and support their current and future women leaders. Most of our involvement is by word of mouth so your sharing with your network is much appreciated. Thanks ****! – Shelly

San Francisco Women Leaders Schedule.

OVERVIEW.
San Francisco Women Leaders is focused on the professional advancement and success of San Francisco Area women business leaders and rising stars. For safety this year our planning committee decided it would be best to transform the usual yearly in-person event into a 12-month experience beginning with a big opening web conference, then monthly web conferences, leading up to a big finale in-person summit a year from now when we can celebrate in safety and get back to sharing ideas in-person. Registration covers the full year (12 months from each renewal).

Hi ****, thank you for getting back to me.  We would really enjoy your participation in this year’s San Francisco Bay Women’s Leadership Summit. It is online this year due to COVID but now also includes monthly speakers by dial-in AND a pass to next year’s in-person when safe (all included)…. Can you check your availability and mark your schedule? Here is our site with the date and details:

Site at http://sfwomenleaders.org

Even if you can’t make the kickoff be sure to register anyway as that will give you access to both the recordings and the Tampa Bay Women Leaders Community activities throughout the year which are included.  Thanks and either way we look forward to your involvement ****.

  1. This may not be it, but this reminds me a bit of that story of the massive email scam that sold tickets and vendor booths to hundreds of people for some business type conference that never existed. It was super elaborate and they actually hustled it for several years in a row and to the end never admitted it wasn’t a real thing. I think it was documented on some purpose made blog maybe and linked on here a while ago? Can anyone corroborate?

Edit: ok I was right. If you search in this sub or google “Shelly” or “women’s leadership scam” you can find plenty of stories. Seems like it’s a well documented hustle. Still haven’t found that blog that was all about it though.

Edit again: I should be more patient. [Heres the blog](https://blog.dynamoo.com/2014/03/its-fake-bizsummits-cfo-summit-cio.html?m=1) with an explanation and 7 years worth of comments of “Shelly’s at it again!” and some very elaborate storytelling by the people running the scam. Great read.
