The crypto scammers holding fake conversations about their Bitcoin gurus in Youtube comment sections are now trying it on Reddit. OP made a generic post about selling bitcoin; every single commenter appears to be their sockpuppet. Interesting posting histories.

Interesting development; thanks for pointing this out! Why not expand, since it works (i.e. we’ve had people come into this sub who signed on with a completely random internet “investment advisor” because the person “checked out” due to sockpuppets recommending them).

If anyone wants background on this topic, here’s some prior threads where we talked about these sockpuppet comments on YouTube:

[I think most people already know about this scam but I’d hate for someone to fall for it, also first time I’ve ever seen it](https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/comments/pd215s/i_think_most_people_already_know_about_this_scam/)

Facebook is full of them. I’ve even seen scammers trying to scam a scammer.

  3. This stuff works on YouTube comments (which is largely unmoderated and where you can’t really block spammers unless you’re the channel owner) but it seems like it would be less effective on Reddit where posts can be more easily blocked or reported (at least in subs with active mods).

I see that a lot on Facebook comments on general news stories. One bitcoin scammer will hijack the post, commenting about how great bitcoin is and how they can help you make all this money, and within a few minutes all these other people comment on his post, saying that they worked with him and he made them so much money and he is so safe and reliable and blah blah blah.

It’s s obviously all posted by the one guy and his sock accounts, they all even use the exact same grammar and syntax.
